The Chair of the Awards Committee must receive nominations (original and one copy) by the first of September or a date stipulated by the Chair of the current year. HALL OF FAME AWARDListed below are the rules and regulations regarding the criteria for nomination to the Association’s Hall of Fame:
The winner will receive a plaque for their home, as well as a certificate for the individual’s department/squad.
CHIEF GEORGE T. HILLARD FIREFIGHTER/RESCUER OF THE YEARThis award was approved in 2001 and is given in honor of chief George T. Hillard of the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department. Chief Hillard, a volunteer, has served with honor and dedication for 50 years, with 39 of those years being served as Chief of the department. Chief Hillard, while retired as Chief, continues to serve the UMCVFD. Chief Hillard's contributions and leadership to the citizens and the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services is an inspiration and a role model to all. Listed below are the rules and regulations regarding the criteria to receive this award. MARY BETH MICHOS AWARD (Career Paramedic Nomination) This award is given in honor of Mary Beth Michos, R. N. for the service she has provided the Montgomery County Fire-Rescue Emergency Medical Services Program. Ms. Michos assisted in the inception of the Emergency Medical Services Program, as well as the training program for CRT/Paramedics, as we know it today. The following are the criteria for nomination to the Mary Beth Michos Award and should be included with nomination letters and documentation. 1. Nominee, must be a certified CRT/Paramedic of the nominating department or division. 2. Nominee must have participated in more than the required EMS training during the past year. 3. Nominee must have performed additional service in EMS training to the community and/or personnel in the Montgomery County Fire/Rescue Service. The winner will have their name and year, in which the award was presented, engraved on a large trophy, which will be permanently displayed at the Public Service Training Academy. In addition, the winner will receive a plaque for their home and a certificate for their department or division. Career CRT/Paramedic service only will be considered for this award. This award will be presented at the annual convention of the MCVFRA. JAMES S. NICEWARNER MEMORIAL AWARD (Volunteer Paramedic Award) This award is given in memory of James S. Nicewarner, for his work in the Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services Program. Mr. Nicewarner, as a member of the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department, was very active in the Emergency Medical Services Program until his death while serving in the line of duty. The following are the criteria for nomination to the James S. Nicewarner Memorial Award and should be included with the nomination letters and documentation. 1. The nominee must be a currently certified CRT/Paramedic of the nominating corporation. 2. The nominee must have participated in more than the required EMS training during the past year. 3. The nominee must have performed additional service in EMS training to the community and /or personnel in the Montgomery County Fire-Rescue Service. The winner will have their name and the year, in which the award was presented, engraved on a large trophy, which will be permanently displayed at the Public Service Training Academy. In addition, the winner will receive a plaque for their home as well as a certificate for the individual’s Local Fire/Rescue Department. Volunteer CRT/Paramedic service will only be considered for this award. This award will be presented at the Annual Convention of the MCVFRA. JOHN A. WHITE MEMORIAL AWARD (Volunteer or Career Award)
This award is given in memory of John A. White for his dedication service in the inception of the Montgomery County Paramedic Program. Mr. White, as a member of the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad, assisted in the building of the foundation of the Heart Mobile and the Paramedic Program in Montgomery County. The following are the criteria for nomination to the John A. White Memorial Award and should be included with nomination letters and documentation. 1. A member currently certified as a CRT/Paramedic of the nominating Fire/rescue Corporation or division. 2. The nominee must have at least five (5) years as a CRT/Paramedic with the EMS Program in Montgomery County. 3. The nominee must have participated in more than the required time and training and have shown dedication to the EMS Program in the past five- (5) years. 4. The nominee must have demonstrated other contributions, which the CRT/Paramedic has given the EMS Program. The winner will have their name and the year, in which the award was presented, engraved on a large trophy, which will be on permanent display at the Public Service Training Academy. In addition, the winner will receive a plaque for their home, as well as a certificate for the individual’s local fire/rescue department or division. This award will be given annually, to one (1) CRT/Paramedic in Montgomery County, who meets the criteria noted above and who has at least five- (5) year’s service as a CRT/Paramedic. The award will be presented at the annual convention of the MCVFRA.
