The Chair of the Awards Committee must receive nominations (original and one copy) by the first of September or a date stipulated by the Chair of the current year.

HALL OF FAME AWARD

Listed below are the rules and regulations regarding the criteria for nomination to the Association’s Hall of Fame:

  1. The nominee must be a member in good standing, with a minimum of five years of service, in a department of the Montgomery County Volunteer Fire-Rescue Association.
  1. A distinguished citizen such as an elected or appointed public official or any other citizen, who has contributed in an outstanding manner to the fire-rescue services of our county, sponsored or assisted in a program for the benefit of volunteer fire/rescue/ems service and/or personnel may be eligible for the Hall of Fame.
  1. A member of a Montgomery County LFRD, the member department or members of the Award Committee may present nominations. All nominations are to be in writing.
  1. Nominations shall be made on the stationary of the fire department or rescue squad of the individual or Corporation submitting the same.
  1. Nominee must have contributed in an outstanding manner for the betterment of their LFRD, the volunteer service as a whole and have provided distinguish service to the MCVFRA.
  1. Nominations for induction into the Hall of Fame are to be presented at the appropriate Annual MCVFRA Convention.
  1. The Chair of the Awards Committee must receive all nominations by the
  2. specified deadline (for 2009 the deadline is September 1, 2009).

     

    The winner will receive a plaque for their home, as well as a certificate for the individual’s department/squad.

     

    CHIEF GEORGE T. HILLARD FIREFIGHTER/RESCUER OF THE YEAR

    This award was approved in 2001 and is given in honor of chief George T. Hillard of the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department. Chief Hillard, a volunteer, has served with honor and dedication for 50 years, with 39 of those years being served as Chief of the department. Chief Hillard, while retired as Chief, continues to serve the UMCVFD. Chief Hillard's contributions and leadership to the citizens and the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services is an inspiration and a role model to all. Listed below are the rules and regulations regarding the criteria to receive this award.

    1. Must be a volunteer member of an LFRD of the Montgomery County Volunteer. Fire and Rescue Association.

    2. Must have served a total of four years of volunteer service in a Local Fire and Rescue Department of Montgomery County.

    3. Must have obtained minimum certifications as a Firefighter II.

    4. In addition to their outstanding performance as a Firefighter/Rescuer, they must have shown, during the year, other contributions and/or actions that are above and beyond those required. They should include any of the following items, a
    heroic act, fundraising, development and/or instituting programs, community business outreach, recruitment, or committee participation.
    5. The winner will have their name and the year, in which the award was presented engraved on a plaque which will be on permanent display at the Public Service Training Academy. In addition, the winner will receive a plaque for their home, as well as a certificate for the individual's department/squad. This award will be given annually, to one volunteer firefighter/rescuer, in Montgomery County, who meets the above criteria.

    MARY BETH MICHOS AWARD

    (Career Paramedic Nomination)

    This award is given in honor of Mary Beth Michos, R. N. for the service she has provided the Montgomery County Fire-Rescue Emergency Medical Services Program. Ms. Michos assisted in the inception of the Emergency Medical Services Program, as well as the training program for CRT/Paramedics, as we know it today.

    The following are the criteria for nomination to the Mary Beth Michos Award and should be included with nomination letters and documentation.

    1. Nominee, must be a certified CRT/Paramedic of the nominating department or division.

    2. Nominee must have participated in more than the required EMS training during the past year.

    3. Nominee must have performed additional service in EMS training to the community and/or personnel in the Montgomery County Fire/Rescue Service.

    The winner will have their name and year, in which the award was presented, engraved on a large trophy, which will be permanently displayed at the Public Service Training Academy. In addition, the winner will receive a plaque for their home and a certificate for their department or division.

    Career CRT/Paramedic service only will be considered for this award.

    This award will be presented at the annual convention of the MCVFRA. Nominations (original and one copy) must be received by the Chair of the Awards Committee by the first or August or a date stipulated by the Chair of the current year.

     

    JAMES S. NICEWARNER MEMORIAL AWARD

    (Volunteer Paramedic Award)

    This award is given in memory of James S. Nicewarner, for his work in the Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services Program. Mr. Nicewarner, as a member of the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department, was very active in the Emergency Medical Services Program until his death while serving in the line of duty.

    The following are the criteria for nomination to the James S. Nicewarner Memorial Award and should be included with the nomination letters and documentation.

    1. The nominee must be a currently certified CRT/Paramedic of the nominating corporation.

    2. The nominee must have participated in more than the required EMS training during the past year.

    3. The nominee must have performed additional service in EMS training to the community and /or personnel in the Montgomery County Fire-Rescue Service.

    The winner will have their name and the year, in which the award was presented, engraved on a large trophy, which will be permanently displayed at the Public Service Training Academy. In addition, the winner will receive a plaque for their home as well as a certificate for the individual’s Local Fire/Rescue Department.

    Volunteer CRT/Paramedic service will only be considered for this award.

    This award will be presented at the Annual Convention of the MCVFRA. The Chair of the Awards Committee must receive all nominations (original and one copy), by the first of August or a date stipulated by the Chair of the current year.

     

    JOHN A. WHITE MEMORIAL AWARD

    (Volunteer or Career Award)

     

    This award is given in memory of John A. White for his dedication service in the inception of the Montgomery County Paramedic Program. Mr. White, as a member of the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad, assisted in the building of the foundation of the Heart Mobile and the Paramedic Program in Montgomery County.

    The following are the criteria for nomination to the John A. White Memorial Award and should be included with nomination letters and documentation.

    1. A member currently certified as a CRT/Paramedic of the nominating Fire/rescue Corporation or division.

    2. The nominee must have at least five (5) years as a CRT/Paramedic with the EMS Program in Montgomery County.

    3. The nominee must have participated in more than the required time and training and have shown dedication to the EMS Program in the past five- (5) years.

    4. The nominee must have demonstrated other contributions, which the CRT/Paramedic has given the EMS Program.

    The winner will have their name and the year, in which the award was presented, engraved on a large trophy, which will be on permanent display at the Public Service Training Academy. In addition, the winner will receive a plaque for their home, as well as a certificate for the individual’s local fire/rescue department or division.

    This award will be given annually, to one (1) CRT/Paramedic in Montgomery County, who meets the criteria noted above and who has at least five- (5) year’s service as a CRT/Paramedic. The award will be presented at the annual convention of the MCVFRA.

     

    EMT OF THE YEAR AWARD

    New for 2010

     

    1. Must be a certified and active Charge EMT and a member in good standing of a Montgomery County LFRD.
    2. Must have served as a Charge EMT for a period of 3 years with 2 of those years having obtained 50 LOSAP points.
    3. For specific heroic efforts beyond the call of duty, the years of service can be waved.
    4. Proven efforts for consistency in EMS excellence.
    5. Shown outstanding performance when providing pre hospital care.
    6. Contribution by the nominee to the community for dedication, responsibility, professional behavior, ingenuity, special skill or insight to the EMS community.
    7. Any award, committee, mentoring or contribution to the EMS service.
    8. Proven innovations/dedication, responsibility, executive and management skill in establishing, maintaining, promoting or expanding EMS volunteer organizations on a local, state or national level.
    9. Nominations to be made by LFRD Chief, President, EMS Officer or Chair/Member of an LFRD or MCVFRA EMS Committee.

MCVFRA ADMINISTRATIVE MEMBER AWARD

New for 2010

 

  1. This is an individual award and the nominee must be in good standing with their LFRD.
  1. Must have actively served in a Montgomery County LFRD for a period of 5 years as an Administrative member or as an Appointed or Elected Administrative Member.  Requiring three of those years having received 50 LOSAP points.
  1. Nomination can include actively serving in an Administrative capacity on committees of the MCVFRA, MSFA as well as their LFRD with providing detailed information of participation, contributions and achievements of those committees.
  1. Nomination must cover minimum of 5 years contributions.  Additional recognition will be applied for longer periods.
  1. Information should also include Appointed or Elected Administrative responsibilities, administrative achievements, establishing of programs, positive contributions to their LFRD or service as a whole, community outreach, fund raising achievements and participation chairing any committee, in-depth contributions to a committee other participation that is requested by their LFRD for the promotion, maintenance or support of the volunteer service.
  1. Listing of any awards received by the Nominee during those 5 years.
  1. LFRD Chief, President, Board Member, MCVFRA Board Member, MSFA Board Member or Committee Chair may submit nominations.
